Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (475 ml) unsweetened almond milk (or any plant-based milk)
  • 2 tablespoons (12 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup (or honey), to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Optional toppings: coconut whipped cream, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, mini marshmallows (if you're feeling naughty!)

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together almond milk, cocoa powder, maple syrup (or honey), vanilla extract, and salt.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. Whisk constantly until the mixture is heated through, smooth, and steaming (but not boiling).
  3. Taste the hot cocoa and add more maple syrup (or honey) if desired, whisking to incorporate.
  4. Pour the healthy hot cocoa into mugs and top with your favorite toppings. Enjoy immediately!
