Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup frozen peas
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ½ cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (approx. 15 mins). Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and carrots until softened (approx. 5 mins). Add garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in ground beef/lamb and cook until browned. Mix in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, peas, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 10 mins.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread the meat filling evenly in a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes, smoothing it out to the edges.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for a crispy crust, if desired.
- Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
