Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (190g) steel cut oats
  • 4 cups (946ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar (or maple syrup to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional)
  • Toppings: fresh fruit, chopped nuts, honey, milk or cream

Instructions:

  1. Add steel cut oats, water, salt, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and butter (if using) to the Instant Pot. Stir to combine.
  2. Secure the lid of the Instant Pot, ensuring the steam release valve is in the 'Sealing' position.
  3. Select the 'Manual' or 'Pressure Cook' setting and set the cook time for 5 minutes on high pressure.
  4. Once the cooking cycle is complete, allow the pressure to release naturally for 15 minutes.
  5. After 15 minutes, carefully quick release any remaining pressure by moving the steam release valve to the 'Venting' position.
  6. Remove the lid and stir the oats well. The mixture will thicken as it cools slightly. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
