Ingredients:

  • 1 cup steel cut oats (about 90g)
  • 4 cups water (960ml)
  • 1 cup milk or plant-based alternative (240ml)
  • ½ teaspoon salt (2g)
  • 2-4 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (30-60ml)
  • Fresh fruits (e.g., berries, bananas)
  • Nuts and seeds (e.g., almonds, chia seeds)
  • Spices (e.g., cinnamon, nutmeg)
  • Nut butter (e.g., peanut butter, almond butter)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the crock pot. Lightly grease the inside with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Combine ingredients. In the crock pot, add steel cut oats, water, milk, and salt. Stir well to mix.
  3. Sweeten if desired. Add maple syrup or honey at this stage or adjust later at serving.
  4. Set the cooker. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until oats reach desired consistency.
  5. Stir and serve. Once done, stir well before serving. Adjust thickness by adding more milk if needed.
  6. Add toppings. Serve with your choice of fruits, nuts, and spices for extra flavor.
