Ingredients:
- 1 cup steel cut oats (about 90g)
- 4 cups water (960ml)
- 1 cup milk or plant-based alternative (240ml)
- ½ teaspoon salt (2g)
- 2-4 tablespoons maple syrup or honey (30-60ml)
- Fresh fruits (e.g., berries, bananas)
- Nuts and seeds (e.g., almonds, chia seeds)
- Spices (e.g., cinnamon, nutmeg)
- Nut butter (e.g., peanut butter, almond butter)
Instructions:
- Prepare the crock pot. Lightly grease the inside with butter or cooking spray.
- Combine ingredients. In the crock pot, add steel cut oats, water, milk, and salt. Stir well to mix.
- Sweeten if desired. Add maple syrup or honey at this stage or adjust later at serving.
- Set the cooker. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until oats reach desired consistency.
- Stir and serve. Once done, stir well before serving. Adjust thickness by adding more milk if needed.
- Add toppings. Serve with your choice of fruits, nuts, and spices for extra flavor.
