Ingredients:
- 14 oz firm or extra-firm tofu
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
- 1 tbsp olive oil or neutral oil (optional for tossing)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
- Pinch of black pepper
Instructions:
- Press the Tofu: Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object on top for 10-15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Cut and Marinate: Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes. Whisk together the marinade ingredients and gently toss the tofu to coat. Let marinate for 10 to 30 minutes.
- Coat with Cornstarch: Sprinkle cornstarch evenly over the marinated tofu and toss gently until each cube is lightly coated.
- Preheat and Arrange in Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 3 minutes, then spray or lightly oil the basket. Arrange tofu cubes in a single layer with space between them.
- Air Fry the Tofu: Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides.
- Serve: Remove the tofu carefully from the air fryer. Optionally drizzle with extra soy sauce and garnish with sesame seeds or chopped scallions. Serve immediately.
