Ingredients:

  • 14 oz firm or extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or neutral oil (optional for tossing)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • Pinch of black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Press the Tofu: Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object on top for 10-15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut and Marinate: Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes. Whisk together the marinade ingredients and gently toss the tofu to coat. Let marinate for 10 to 30 minutes.
  3. Coat with Cornstarch: Sprinkle cornstarch evenly over the marinated tofu and toss gently until each cube is lightly coated.
  4. Preheat and Arrange in Air Fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 3 minutes, then spray or lightly oil the basket. Arrange tofu cubes in a single layer with space between them.
  5. Air Fry the Tofu: Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  6. Serve: Remove the tofu carefully from the air fryer. Optionally drizzle with extra soy sauce and garnish with sesame seeds or chopped scallions. Serve immediately.
