Ingredients:

  • 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Peel and thinly slice the yellow onions into rings.
  2. Place sliced onions in a large bowl and cover with buttermilk. Let soak for 15 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Remove onions from buttermilk and let excess liquid drip off. Toss in the flour mixture until well coated.
  6. Carefully add a handful of coated onions to hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, stirring occasionally.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to remove onions and transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
