Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (480 ml) whole milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 4 oz (113 g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream for whipped cream
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for whipped cream

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine milk and heavy cream. Warm over medium-low heat until hot but not boiling.
  2. Add chopped chocolate to the warm milk mixture. Whisk until the chocolate has melted and is fully combined.
  3. Stir in granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Adjust sweetness as desired.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract for whipped cream. Whip until soft peaks form.
  5. Pour hot chocolate into mugs. Top generously with whipped cream and optional cocoa powder or shaved chocolate.
