Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt
  • 1 tablespoon (14g) unsalted butter or olive oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear.
  2. Add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter/oil (if using) to a medium saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a rapid boil over medium-high heat.
  4. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time!
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains.
  7. Serve immediately or keep warm. This is the perfect white rice recipe.
