Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) baby onions, peeled (preferably pearl onions)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sour cream
  • ½ cup (120 ml) mayonnaise
  • 1 cup (packed) fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Peel the baby onions and soak in water for 15-30 minutes (optional: helps to soften). Drain and pat dry.
  2. In a bowl, combine olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss the onions until well coated.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Thread the baby onions onto skewers for easier grilling (optional).
  5. Place onions on the grill for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally until charred and tender.
  6. In a mixing bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, basil, lemon juice, and garlic. Whisk until smooth; season with salt and pepper.
  7. Serve grilled onions warm with a generous dipping of creamy basil sauce.
