Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons (45ml) water
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream, warmed
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 shots (60ml / 2 oz) espresso (freshly brewed or strongly brewed coffee)
  • 1 cup (240ml / 8 fl oz) milk (2% or whole milk recommended)
  • 1-2 tablespoons sugar or simple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • Additional caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions:

  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Cook, without stirring (swirling the pan gently is okay), until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
  3. Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the warmed heavy cream. (Be prepared for bubbling!)
  4. Stir in the butter and salt until smooth.
  5. Let cool slightly before using.
  6. Brew your espresso using your preferred method.
  7. Heat the milk in a saucepan or using a milk frother.
  8. Froth the milk until it is foamy and voluminous.
  9. Pour the steamed milk into a large mug.
  10. Optionally, add sugar or simple syrup to the milk and stir gently.
  11. Carefully pour the espresso over the milk, letting it settle into layers.
  12. Drizzle generously with caramel sauce.
  13. Serve immediately and enjoy.
