Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons (45ml) water
- 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream, warmed
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 2 shots (60ml / 2 oz) espresso (freshly brewed or strongly brewed coffee)
- 1 cup (240ml / 8 fl oz) milk (2% or whole milk recommended)
- 1-2 tablespoons sugar or simple syrup (optional, to taste)
- Additional caramel sauce for drizzling
Instructions:
- Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Cook, without stirring (swirling the pan gently is okay), until the mixture turns a deep amber color.
- Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the warmed heavy cream. (Be prepared for bubbling!)
- Stir in the butter and salt until smooth.
- Let cool slightly before using.
- Brew your espresso using your preferred method.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan or using a milk frother.
- Froth the milk until it is foamy and voluminous.
- Pour the steamed milk into a large mug.
- Optionally, add sugar or simple syrup to the milk and stir gently.
- Carefully pour the espresso over the milk, letting it settle into layers.
- Drizzle generously with caramel sauce.
- Serve immediately and enjoy.
