Ingredients:

  • 4 (6-ounce/170g) salmon fillets, skin on or off
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) water (if needed)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) chopped green onions (scallions) (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Pat salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Lightly brush with olive oil, season with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger (if using), and red pepper flakes (if using). Add water if the glaze is too thick.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  4. Place salmon fillets skin-side down (if using skin) on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from the oven and brush generously with the honey-garlic glaze.
  5. Return to the oven and bake for another 4-7 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). The glaze should be slightly caramelized.
  6. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
