Ingredients:
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup (60g) granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup (65g) packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)
- 1/4 cup (40g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Clean and dry the jar thoroughly.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Start layering in the jar: first the flour mixture, then granulated sugar, brown sugar, chocolate chips, and nuts (if adding).
- Seal the jar with the lid and, if desired, decorate with a ribbon or a tag with baking instructions.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, egg, and vanilla.
- Add the contents of the jar into the mixing bowl and combine until the dough comes together.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
- Allow cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
