Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup (60g) granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup (65g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk)
  • 1/4 cup (40g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Clean and dry the jar thoroughly.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Start layering in the jar: first the flour mixture, then granulated sugar, brown sugar, chocolate chips, and nuts (if adding).
  4. Seal the jar with the lid and, if desired, decorate with a ribbon or a tag with baking instructions.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, egg, and vanilla.
  6. Add the contents of the jar into the mixing bowl and combine until the dough comes together.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
