Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef (90% lean or higher)
- 3 cloves (9g) garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp (6g) fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp (15ml) neutral oil
- 1/4 cup (60ml) low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp (25g) brown sugar
- 1 tbsp (15ml) water
- 1 tsp (5ml) sesame oil
- 1 tsp (3g) cornstarch
- 3 stalks (30g) green onions, sliced
- 1 tsp (3g) toasted sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Heat the neutral oil in a skillet over medium high heat.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir constantly for 30-60 seconds until fragrant and pungent, then remove them from the pan and set aside. Note: Removing them prevents the garlic from burning when the heat goes up.
- Increase the heat to high and add the lean ground beef.
- Spread the meat across the pan and let it sit undisturbed for 2 minutes until a mahogany colored crust forms.
- Break the beef into crumbles and cook for another 3-5 minutes until fully browned.
- While the beef browns, whisk the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, sesame oil, and cornstarch in a small bowl until dissolved.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the browned beef.
- Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes until the sauce bubbles and turns into a thick, glossy glaze.
- Turn off the heat immediately.
- Fold in the sliced green onions and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
