Ingredients:
- 1.5 lb (24 oz) 80/20 ground beef chuck
- 4 large enriched hamburger buns
- 4 slices American or Sharp Cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup robust, thick BBQ sauce
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- Combine ground beef, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Gently form the mixture into four equally sized 6-ounce patties. Create a small dimple in the center of each patty using your thumb to prevent bulging during cooking.
- Preheat your grill to high heat (450°F or higher). Clean and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Place the patties on the hot grill. Grill for 4 to 6 minutes per side, depending on desired doneness, ensuring a crusty sear develops. Avoid pressing the patties with a spatula, as this pushes out essential fat and moisture.
- In the last 90 seconds of cooking, brush the top of each patty generously with the BBQ sauce. Immediately place one slice of cheese on top of the glaze. Close the grill lid for 30 to 60 seconds to allow the cheese to melt and the sauce to caramelize slightly.
- Remove the finished BBQ Cheeseburgers from the grill and place them immediately onto the hamburger buns. Serve hot.
