Ingredients:
- 3 cups (710ml) water
- ½ teaspoon (3g) kosher salt
- 1 cup (180g) steel cut oats
- Optional Toppings: Brown sugar, maple syrup, fresh fruit (berries, bananas, apples), nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds), seeds (chia, flax), milk or cream
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, bring the water and salt to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Stir in the steel cut oats.
- Immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, or until the oats are tender and most of the water has been absorbed. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- The oats should be tender but still retain a slight chewiness. If they are too thick, add a splash more water and stir.
- Ladle the cooked steel cut oats into bowls and top with your desired toppings.
