Ingredients:
- 1 (1 pound) loaf of Italian or French bread
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound thinly sliced sirloin steak
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 8 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
- 4 ounces cheese whiz
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice bread lengthwise, leaving a 1-inch border on the bottom. Scoop out the inside of the bread, leaving a shell. Brush the inside of the bread with olive oil and minced garlic.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add sliced onion and bell pepper; sauté until softened and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, increase heat to high. Add sliced steak and cook quickly, stirring frequently, until browned and cooked through (no longer pink). Season with salt and pepper.
- Layer half of the provolone cheese slices on the bottom of the bread shell. Top with the sautéed vegetables and cooked steak. Cover with the remaining provolone cheese. Drizzle liberally with cheese whiz.
- Place the assembled bread on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving this cheesesteak bread.
