Ingredients:
- lbs Ground Beef (80/20 suggested)
- tsp Dried Oregano
- /2 tsp Garlic Powder
- tsp Salt
- /2 tsp Black Pepper
- /2 cup high quality Pizza Sauce
- oz Low-Moisture Mozzarella, shredded
- Tbsp Parmesan Cheese, grated
- Fresh Basil Leaves, roughly chopped
- Burger Buns (Brioche or Potato rolls)
- Tbsp Olive Oil
- Optional: 1/2 cup Sliced Pepperoni or Mushrooms
Instructions:
- Prep the Patties: Combine ground beef, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Gently mix until just combined. Form into 4 equal patties, slightly wider than the buns.
- Sear the Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until a nice crust forms. Reduce heat slightly if necessary.
- Toast the Buns: While the second side cooks, lightly brush the cut sides of the buns with olive oil and toast them in a separate dry pan or under the broiler until light golden brown. Set aside.
- Assemble for Melt: Once the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness (target internal temp 160°F/71°C for beef), place them on a foil-lined baking sheet.
- Pizza Layering: Spoon a generous layer of pizza sauce over the top of each patty. Sprinkle evenly with the mozzarella and Parmesan. If using optional toppings like pepperoni, place them on top of the cheese.
- The Mozzarella Meltdown: Place the baking sheet under a hot broiler (about 4-6 inches away) for 1-3 minutes. Watch constantly until the cheese is bubbly, melted, and just starting to brown in spots.
- Final Assembly: Place the bottom half of each toasted bun on a plate. Top with the cheesy burger patty. Garnish generously with fresh chopped basil. Crown with the top bun and serve immediately.
