Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 g) active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 1/2 cups (312 g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon (6 g) salt
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing
- 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) pizza sauce
- 3 cups (336 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup (57 g) pepperoni slices (or other desired toppings)
- Optional: Black olives, sliced, for eyes and nose
Instructions:
- Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide into 7 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into an oval shape.
- Use a pizza cutter or knife to shape each oval into a skull. Pinch and fold sections to form eye sockets, nose cavities, and a jaw line. Seal your dough edges with water.
- Place skulls on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread pizza sauce evenly over each skull.
- Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Arrange pepperoni or other toppings to create spooky faces. Consider using olive slices for eyes and nose.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
