Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 g) active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 1/2 cups (312 g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon (6 g) salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) pizza sauce
  • 3 cups (336 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (57 g) pepperoni slices (or other desired toppings)
  • Optional: Black olives, sliced, for eyes and nose

Instructions:

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled.
  5. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 7 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into an oval shape.
  8. Use a pizza cutter or knife to shape each oval into a skull. Pinch and fold sections to form eye sockets, nose cavities, and a jaw line. Seal your dough edges with water.
  9. Place skulls on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Spread pizza sauce evenly over each skull.
  11. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  12. Arrange pepperoni or other toppings to create spooky faces. Consider using olive slices for eyes and nose.
  13. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  14. Let cool slightly before serving.
