- 1 cup (240 ml) water
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to balance acidity)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the tomato sauce, water, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt into the saucepan.
- Whisk or stir until all ingredients are fully combined.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and reduce the heat to low.
- Allow the sauce to cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
- After cooking, taste the sauce and adjust seasoning as necessary. Stir in sugar if desired to balance acidity.
- Remove from heat and let cool before using, or transfer immediately to a storage container.
