Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup (60 ml) soy sauce, low sodium
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey or maple syrup
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch (2.5 cm) ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1.5 lbs (680g) sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 red onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions (scallions)
  • Lime wedges
  • Fresh cilantro

Instructions:

  1. Whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes (optional), and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Add the steak cubes to the marinade and toss to coat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight for maximum flavour.
  2. Thread the marinated steak, bell peppers, and red onion onto skewers, alternating ingredients. Leave a small gap between each piece to ensure even cooking.
  3. Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook the skewers for 8-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
  4. Garnish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions and fresh cilantro. Serve with the lime wedges.
