Ingredients:
- ¼ cup (60 ml) soy sauce, low sodium
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey or maple syrup
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch (2.5 cm) ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1.5 lbs (680g) sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 green bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 red onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions (scallions)
- Lime wedges
- Fresh cilantro
Instructions:
- Whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, red pepper flakes (optional), and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Add the steak cubes to the marinade and toss to coat thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight for maximum flavour.
- Thread the marinated steak, bell peppers, and red onion onto skewers, alternating ingredients. Leave a small gap between each piece to ensure even cooking.
- Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook the skewers for 8-12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes before serving.
- Garnish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions and fresh cilantro. Serve with the lime wedges.
