Ingredients:

  • 4 large apples (approx. 600g), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/2-inch wedges
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1/3 cup water, divided
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Instructions:

  1. Place a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Once shimmering, add the sliced apples in a single layer. Let sit undisturbed for 2 minutes until a light golden-brown edge develops.
  2. Add the lemon juice, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Pour in 1/4 cup of the water and stir gently to distribute spices.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the pan for 3–4 minutes to soften the apples via steam.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk the remaining water with the cornstarch to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the pan, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens into a glossy, mahogany-colored glaze.
