Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted (227g)
  • 2 cups packed light brown sugar (400g)
  • 2 large eggs (approximately 100g total)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5ml)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (240g)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder (5g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (2.5g)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional) (100g)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Stir in chopped walnuts or pecans, if using.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached. The top should be golden brown.
  8. Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
