Ingredients:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 medium apple, grated
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and oats.
  3. Add grated apple, grated carrot, applesauce, vegetable oil, and egg to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until a dough forms. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, if the dough is too dry. The dough should be firm but not sticky.
  5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  6. Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out treats.
  7. Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the treats are hard and golden brown.
  9. Turn off the oven and allow the treats to cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar.
  10. Store in an airtight container.
