Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 medium apple, grated
- 1 medium carrot, grated
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and oats.
- Add grated apple, grated carrot, applesauce, vegetable oil, and egg to the dry ingredients.
- Mix until a dough forms. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, if the dough is too dry. The dough should be firm but not sticky.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Use a bone-shaped cookie cutter to cut out treats.
- Place the treats on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the treats are hard and golden brown.
- Turn off the oven and allow the treats to cool completely inside the oven with the door slightly ajar.
- Store in an airtight container.
