Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) steel cut oats
  • 4 cups (950ml) water or milk (or a mixture of both for creaminess)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 cup (75g) mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
  • 1/4 cup (30g) chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, or pecans)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon or a dash of vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine steel cut oats, water or milk, and salt.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the oats are creamy and tender with a slight chew.
  4. If the mixture becomes too thick, add a splash more water or milk and stir until desired creaminess is achieved.
  5. Remove from heat and portion the oats into serving bowls. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
