Ingredients:
- 1 cup (200g) steel cut oats
- 4 cups (950ml) water or milk (or a mixture of both for creaminess)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) maple syrup or honey
- 1/2 cup (75g) mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)
- 1/4 cup (30g) chopped nuts (walnuts, almonds, or pecans)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon or a dash of vanilla extract
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan, combine steel cut oats, water or milk, and salt.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until the oats are creamy and tender with a slight chew.
- If the mixture becomes too thick, add a splash more water or milk and stir until desired creaminess is achieved.
- Remove from heat and portion the oats into serving bowls. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
